::RDU Now Offers Jets To Ft. Lauderdale

RDU AIRPORT - According to Raleigh-Durham International Airport officials, two airlines serving the airport recently announced nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The airport said that Southwest Airlines and JetBlue Airlines have both announced nonstop flights from Raleigh to Ft. Lauderdale.
Southwest said this week it will offer daily nonstop service between RDU and Fort Lauderdale starting on February 4, 2008. The airport says that with the new route, Southwest now offers 32 direct flights daily departures from RDU to eight different destinations.
In addition, the airport authority says that JetBlue Airlines will begin "seasonal" nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale beginning January 10th of 2008.
"We are pleased to see expanded service to South Florida ," said Teresa Damiano, RDU's director of marketing in a statement to the press. "The Fort Lauderdale area has needed additional service for several years."
Damiano added that around 400 people a day travel between south Florida and RDU airport.
"South Florida has been an underserved nonstop market since the termination of Midway Airlines operations in fall 2001," added Damiano in the press statement. ::
