::Old Jillian's Will Be Half Bar, Half Church
By Elliott West, Raleigh Chronicle News Editor Friday June 22, 2007
RALEIGH - According to the owner of the former Jillian's nightclub building on West Morgan Street in downtown Raleigh, two new tenants will each be leasing half the building -- a new bar and an existing Raleigh church.
The somewhat unusual combination may be more of a function of trying to fill the space rather than by design. The massive building, which was the former Jillian's nightclub spot for several years, takes up a whole city block and it may have been hard to find a tenant for the entire space.
According to Greg Hatem of Empire Properties, which owns the building, the Vintage 21 church of Raleigh will be moving into part of the building. The modern-style nondenominational church has been meeting in Raleigh for several years.
Also moving into the building is the new Buckhead Saloon, which will be hosting their grand opening tonight, Friday June 22nd, at the building. Their bar will take up the part of the structure that includes the vollyball courts and bar area where Jillian's main dining hall was located before.
It should be noted that the Buckhead Saloon and Vintage 21 church are not associated with each other and they just happen to be moving into the same building.
Buckhead Saloon says it will have live music from Thursday through Saturday nights and will host a "casually classy" atmosphere.
The saloon is giving away free VIP memberships through its grand opening online at their website and the bar is scheduled to open to the public on Saturday after their grand opening event on Friday. ::
