RALEIGH -- Triangle TV viewers will see some changes on two local TV stations, starting this month.
On September 18th, the Warner Brothers Network and UPN Network will combine to form the new CW Network. CBS will own 50% of the company and Warner Brothers will own 50% of the company, hence the name "CW" for CBS and Warner Brothers.
In addition, My Network TV, a new mini-network of Fox Television (owned by the News Corporation) will be launched this month and its first shows will start broadcasting today. Most of the new My Network TV stations are former UPN stations.
In the Triangle, WB 22 (WLFL) will change over to the CW Network and UPN 28 (WRDC) will change over to become a My Network TV affiliate. Locally, Channel 28 will be called "My RDC" and Channel 22 will be rebranded as "CW 22".
Both stations are owned by Sinclair Broadcasting which runs 58 TV stations in markets across the country and is headquartered near Baltimore.
Most of the shows on the new CW Network will be familiar to most viewers of the former UPN and WB networks. Shows such as "Everybody Hates Chris," "Gilmore Girls," "Charmed," and "Smackdown" will be among those that are retained in the new CW network lineup.
However, the My Network TV network will have an evening lineup that is almost entirely made up of what could be described as prime time soap operas. According to various sources, two shows called "Desire" and "Fashion House" will air six nights a week during prime time. The shows are produced by Fox and are similar to syndicated shows, but have a daily continuing plot line similar to a soap opera.
The shows will run Monday through Friday for 13 weeks, with a recap show on Saturdays that will air at 8pm. After 13 weeks, a new series will begin.
Syndicated shows as well as other Fox shows will make up the rest of the My Network TV programming on WRDC. ::: |
